PROJECTS > URBAN PLANNING AND CITY
Obispo Rocamora Street is one of the main commercial and administrative streets of the city of Orihuela (Alicante). Historically, it is one of the road axes to enter the city, but, an obsolet cross-section, and the traffic pressure, had turned away the pedestrians' space.
Working together with Mrs. Clara García Mayor, Architect, and design co-author, we have designed a new urban space, where people recover the city-life. Wider sidewalks, levelled crossings, gardening, and new areas for coffe-terraces, etc, they recover again the human scale for this street.
The traffic has been regulated with traffic calm design: a narrower lane, and regulated parking space, finally has produced not only more agile but also slower traffic.
Works have suffered special difficulties due to the needed to keep secure and accesible the walk tracks to the homes and commerces along the street.
